Amy Rogers Evans, daughter of Thomas and Sarah Rogers was born in Gratiot County, Mich., June 2, 1873 and quietly passed away at the home of her son Albert, in Cedar Lake, July 14, 1948. Her early childhood was spent at Halfmoon Lake where her father operated a sawmill. Later they moved, to Kansas and returned to Michigan in 1889. Sister Evans accepted the Message at the age of 20 and became a member of the Fairgrove church. A few years later she entered the Bible Work in Grand Rapids, Mich., rendering invaluable service. On February 6, 1900 she was united in marriage to Jay J. Evans and they left immediately by request of the Mission Board for Kingston, Jamaica. Here, for a number of years she successfully carried the responsibility of Sabbath School Secretary for the entire island.
After returning to the States they carried on active mission work in Alabama. In 1910 they moved to a small farm just south of the Cedar Lake Academy to be near one of our schools. One daughter, Vivian Wilson, of Fenwick, and three sons, Albert, of Cedar Lake, Roger, of La Sierra, California and Clyde were born to this happy family. The father was laid to rest in 1938 and the youngest son, Clyde, was reported missing in action in World War II in 1941. Other relatives who mourn her loss are her three brothers and three sisters, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Funeral services were conducted in the Academy Chapel on Sunday afternoon July 18 and she was laid to rest by the side of her husband in the cemetery at Vestaburg, awaiting the call of the Lifegiver. Leading an exemplary, consecrated life caused her to be highly respected by those who knew her.
