Plans have begun for a joint open house of the Gratiot Historical Museum and the Peet-Miller house (Gratiot County Genealogy Library).  The Open House is planned for the weekend of May 18-19, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  It is a short walk between the museum and genealogy library for those who wish to visit both places.

The Genealogy Library has been made reminiscent of the days when it served as a home to Georgiana Peet Miller.  The upstairs bedroom remains much as it did when Georgiana was alive.  The living room and dining room also offer a look into the past.  In addition to housing the library, the society is hoping to offer space for small community groups to meet.

The museum’s tentative theme for 2024 is “Weddings,” featuring its wedding dresses from the past along with pictures and various wedding memorabilia.  Several wedding dresses have been donated since the exhibit was held nine years ago which will make this year’s display unique.

A different exhibit will be displayed in the store featuring the villages of North Star and Elwell.  Of course, the log cabin with its rope bed and spinning wheel will be open for viewing as well as the barn with its buggies and farm tools.

Please keep May 18-19 open on your calendar for this joint venture of the historical society.
