Plans have begun for a joint open house of the Gratiot Historical Museum and the Peet-Miller house which also serves as the Gratiot County Genealogy Library.  The Open House is planned for the weekend of May 20-21, Saturday and Sunday afternoons.  It is a short walk between the museum and genealogy library so visitors should be able to visit both places easily.

Restoration and renovation are continuing at the genealogy library.  Slowly, we are making the house reminiscent of the days when it served as a home to Georgiana Peet Miller.  The upstairs bedroom remains much as it did when Georgiana was alive.  The living room and dining room also offer a look into the past.  In addition to housing the genealogy library, the society is hoping to offer space for small community groups to meet.

The museum’s tentative theme for 2023 is “Hats and Accessories,” featuring its hat collection, clothing from the past and various accessories.  A different exhibit, yet to be decided, will be displayed in the store.  The newest exhibit will feature the restoration of the downstairs master bedroom with a recently donated 1880’s bedroom suite.  Of course, the log cabin and barn will also be open for viewing. Please keep May 20-21 open for this exciting joint venture of the historical society.
